Wilma KO’s Intel
Posted in General, Advisor - Tom Treadway by Tom TreadwayIt appears that Wilma has claimed its first SNW victim - Intel. I just received a message this morning saying that “due to Hurricane Wilma, Intel has decided to cancel our participation in next week’s Storage Networking World in Orlando, Florida”. They go on to mention that the main goal is “ensuring the safety and well being of our employees”, which of course is laudible and I’m sure they’re sincere, but I expect that the primary concern is an environment that is not “conducive to effective business meetings”. Intel won’t be the first to withdraw, leaving just a few of us Floridians and out-of-state folks that don’t get The Weather Channel to mill around in a big, empty room. Sad. I like SNW.
Even though the effect of Wilma on Central Florida should be minimal, it is likely that we’ll experience brief power outages and disruptions at the Orlando airport. And of course there is still a small chance that Wilma could drift north, following pretty much the same course as Charlie last year which caused a week of power outages in some areas, severe gas shortages, and a LOT of downed trees in the roads and on house. I experienced all of those and it was very unpleasant. If that happens again, SNW will be cancelled. Unfortunately we won’t know the final course until sometime Monday.
Safe travels.
