SAS Webinar
Posted in General, Advisor - Tom Treadway by Tom TreadwayMondays are tough, especially after a long, carb-loading weekend like Thanksgiving. I’d like to blame my sluggishness on a tryptophan overdose, but that’s unfortunately just a myth. (I probably should blame it on all the free wine I sponged off my brother-in-law in the Outer Banks, but I won’t bring that up.) So I’ll ease into the new week with a quick word about a webinar that Steve Rogers and I gave last week.
The title of this webinar was “Serial Attached SCSI: Get Started Today” and it was hosted by the fine folks at Byte and Switch. Its purpose was to bring IT admins up to speed on SAS, mostly concentrating on how SAS compares to SATA, SCSI and FC regarding performance, cost, deployment, and usage models. I think we had over 90 people listen to it live, and the post-show report as of last Tuesday had the total listeners up to 360. Sweet. Hopefully we did some good, made the world a better place, etc.
Unfortunately the webinar didn’t get into much technical detail on SAS. It did touch on cables, expanders, etc., but I didn’t have a chance to get into details about the bits and bytes. So I’ll try to do that here in subsequent posts.
