Hope is not a strategy…

I want to give a quick shout-out to my home-boy Jon Toigo for an excellent event over in Tampa this week. It was his first, and hopefully not his last, Disaster Recovery and Data Protection Summit.
The event commemorated (is that the right word?) the start of hurricane season. That may not be a big deal to you folks living outside the South East US, but after two nasty years of ~50 named storms I’m getting just a little tired of being slapped around. Jon’s event was all about being prepared for the big slap when/if it does come.
I think Jon is planning to provide downloads of the presentations, including videos, so I won’t try to cover everything here. But I will try to summarize the event by saying that it was attended by two types of folks: (1) real customers that had real horror stories about bringing their critical data back on line, and (2) a wide variety of vendors who provide software and hardware solutions to help keep that critical data safe, and perhaps more importantly, recoverable.
I thought I knew a fair amount about the subject, but I admit I still learned a ton. And I saw some new products that made me go “hmm”.
Thanks, Jon.
